College is a great time for young people to find themselves and to really find out what they are made of. However, there is a lot to learn. Some students only really become comfortable at college when its about time to leave! Dont let that be you. Here are some great college tips.
Take as many credits as you can handle at one time. Most universities charge you per credit, but only up to twelve credits. After that the rests of the credits in that semester are free. Taking eighteen credits per semester will leave you paying one-third less than your peers for the same education.
A great tip that will help you succeed in college is to carefully plan out your course load each semester. You dont want to get overzealous and pick way too many hard classes at once. Youll barely be able to keep up, and you wont be capable of submitting your best work.
Get used to your schedule and know where to find your classrooms before the first class. Dont forget to calculate how long it takes you to get from class to class and look for alternate routes. You can also find libraries or cafes on your route to study or eat lunch at if you have time.
Make the effort to get to know each of your instructors. Use office hours to visit each instructor at least once during the term. If the instructor is teaching a class in your major or intended major, spend more time in office hours. When you need a letter of recommendation, it will be easier if your instructors know you.
Keep your loans to a minimum. Look into scholarships, grants and special programs to help pay for college so that you wont have a lot of debt hanging over your head when you graduate. For many students, loan checks seem like free money while they are in school--but once you get out they become an obligation you may regret.
During college, there are going to be classes that you realize are too difficult from the onset as you should drop these immediately. These classes can put a lot of stress on you, as you would be better off with an alternative. Also, a different teacher may be able to explain the material better.
Exercise
Get up early to start your day off right. Waking up at 6am can be beneficial towards starting out fresh during your day.
If you are in class and find yourself bored out of your mind, do yourself a favor and stay until it ends. Often times college kids exercise their right to leave whenever they want but you never know when you will miss some truly important information. So make sure to attend every class in its entirety.
Get serious about exercise. Exercise is something that many students dont get enough of. Because weight gain is so normal in college freshmen especially, you have to make the time to get a small workout in so you can stay slim and fit. Think about jogging or using the campus pool to do your workouts.
Nutrition
Every freshman should understand and realize that the freshman 15 does in fact exist. It is important that everyone take the necessary steps to ensure that they are getting proper nutrition during their first year in college. While it might be tempting to pile on some fries for dinner every night, youll pay for it in the long run.
Now that you have these tips, you have to make sure to use them! Apply them to your daily life and you will see how helpful they are. College is a wonderful experience, but only if you know some things. Hopefully this article has helped you figure out what you need to know.
